There’s nothing quite like having a private venue reserved for your special day – even better if that venue is a 5-star, exclusive, luxurious enclave that sits atop a mountain in Colorado’s Rockies.

Welcome to Devil’s Thumb Ranch – a premier ski resort that sits on over 6,500 acres and not only functions as a picture-perfect backdrop for you to say “I Do”, but also as a luxury lodge, complete with several elegant venues, a spa, world-class cuisine, and fun mountain activities in and around the space.

Let’s find out what makes Devil’s Thumb Ranch an ideal wedding venue for any couple looking for the entire Colorado package.

Devil’s Thumb Ranch is a one-stop shop if you are looking for rustic luxury, elegance with mountain views, and exclusivity for you and your guests.

Situated above the Continental Divide in the Rockies, this full-service resort and spa offers several options for venues within the massive property.

Only 75 miles northwest of Denver, you and your guests will be treated to an undeniable Colorado experience. Everything about the decor and space is woven with charm and stories – of which yours will soon become a part of.

Western and cozy, yet elegant and romantic, you and your guests will feel right at home. Devil’s Thumb Ranch offers private wedding lodging at The High Lonesome Lodge, which allows you and your wedding party to be close together for the entirety of the celebration.

What makes this location so unique from the rest is the massive variety of spaces for you to choose from for your welcome and dinner receptions, vows, cocktail and mingling hour, and anything else you wish to have as a part of your big day.

Since this property is an inclusive resort, this means you have catering in-house (including alcohol), amplified music both indoors and outdoors, a wheelchair accessible venue, and availability daily, year-round.

It functions as a ranch/farm but also serves as a resort and spa, so you are truly getting timeless elegance surrounded by nature. The best of both worlds.

The Location and Nearby Experiences

Devil’s Thumb Ranch is located in Tabernash, Colorado (close by the famed Winter Park and Telluride ski resort towns) and provides a memorable experience, to say the least. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the wilderness, the views are all panoramic and the venues on-site all pristine.

While there is plenty to do within the ranch itself, there are a myriad of things for you and your guests to experience outside the walls as well.

On-Site Activities:

  • The Spa:

Enjoy disconnecting from the hustle and bustle of everyday life with the healing touch of nature that surrounds this magical place. This unique spa is an 18,000 square foot hand-hewn log spa nestled in the meadow and overlooking the ranch’s inspiring views. Enjoy a pampering massage or a rejuvenating facial and skin treatment with all organic products.

The spa offers ‘Wellness Wednesdays’ if you and your guests will be there on that day and this includes workshops, meditations, yoga, and hot tub sessions.

  • Dining at Devil’s Thumb Ranch

Choose from four different dining experiences within the property grounds:

  1. Heck’s Tavern (Guests Only)

You’ll be treated to a ranch-to-table style meal here from the property’s own natural lands. Favorites include the wagyu steak and eggs, vegan sweet potato bowl, and complimentary s’mores at the outdoor fire-pit each evening.

  1. Ranch House Restaurant (Open With Reservations)

This restaurant is located in the original home that was built on the ranch in the 1930’s and its walls hold stories as good as the food. Dubbed “American Mountain cuisine”, you’ll also receive ranch-to-table style meals, with food always sourced locally.

  1. Hallowed Grounds Coffee Shop

Coffee, breakfast pastries, bread, juice, beer, and wine, plus a daily selection of sandwiches. Enough said.

  1. Private Dining Experiences

Contact the property for special events, whether it be a birthday, engagement, or a party.

  • The Pool & Hot Tub
  • Live Music
  • Daily Complimentary Yoga
  • Complimentary Morning Guided Hikes
  • Paint & Sip: painting only if you’re under 21 but partake in wine drinking if you are older! Fun for all ages.
  • Astronomy Star Parties
  • Petting Zoo: featuring horses and goats!
  • Fitness Center
  • Movie Theater
  • Game Room (by reservation only)
  • Wi-Fi, Business Centers, and The Library
  • Lawn Games

The Lodge also offers special seasonal events, depending what month you and your guests will be there. With Devil Thumb’s Ranch being in such close proximity to the famous ski towns of Winter Park and Telluride, you’ll definitely want to venture outside to that area if you happen to be there in the wintertime.

Activities Outside of the Resort

  • Visit Winter Park and Telluride

In the colder months, skiing, snowboarding, and sipping on hot chocolate are a must in Colorado. Winter Park is right outside of Devil’s Thumb Ranch and is a must-see at any time of year. Hit the slopes or get cozy in a lodge for winter and for the warmer months, enjoy Winter Park’s Adventure Quest, which is an outdoor recreation park complete with obstacle courses.

  • Visit Main Street in Telluride
  • Dog Sleds of Winter Park
  • The Foundry Cinema and Bowl
  • Various Restaurants and Breweries in and around the area
  • Grand Adventures

For winter and summer activities: this is where you will find snowmobiling tours

  • Red Tail Rafting

I have been photographing weddings in Colorado for years and excel at telling love stories through my camera lens. I guide you from conception up until the end, and always make it a point to have fun while doing so.

It is a beautiful thing to be able to capture the deep connection between two humans through photography and videography. Preserving the memories we make means we get to stop time and hold on to these moments for this lifetime and beyond. This is one of the greatest gifts we have to look back on as we grow older.

To check out my work, please visit me here and if you’re ready to capture this special experience, get in contact with me here today. I look forward to meeting you and helping you carry on your love story – your way.
